First race of FIM CEV Repsol Junior Moto3 Championship in Albacete brought Makar Yurchenko his first world podium.
During free practices rider was showing a stable pace with strong position in Top-3; qualifying under rain conditions made its changes but not radically – Makar Yurchenko started the Sunday race in Albacete from the P4 on the starting grid.
Having shown a good start Yurchenko had set a battle with Spaniard Jeremy Alcoba. The struggle between riders was until the end of the race, until both pilots crossed the finished line. Makar Yurchenko finished race 2nd after Spaniard, with a time difference of 0,068 sec.
Makar Yurchenko: “First stage is always an important start for the season. We made a good job with my team Reale Avintia Academy and this time we used team strategy, not only a gas handle (smiling). After race many people have asked me, why I didn´t overcome Alcoba because it was evident, I had better pace and could fight for victory. I knew that struggle will bring us back to all riders and then the race result could become unpredictable, and podium. I decided to chase Alcoba so we could gain a gap from other pilots, and we did it. In the weather conditions like we had in Albacete (strong wind), I knew that every fight with Alcoba could bring me far from my first podium, and I didn´t want that. I think 2nd place is a good place for this race, it´s my first world podium. I can say I am satisfied. But next race I will fight until the end.
Thanks a lot for my supporter Sokol Racetrack for believing in me! I am very happy to share this first podium with those who are with me, my team, my supporters and close people! See everyone in Le Mans in 2 weeks, 20th of May!”
