6-7th of May, Bugatti Le Mans Circuit welcomed juniors on the French Grand Prix MotoGP. Riders from FIM Junior Moto3 Championship tried their fortune to get the podium places on 7th of May with a spectacular performance on the track. Makar Yurchenko went into a strong fight in the tight group of riders for the 5th position, but managed to pass the finish line being 15th.
The ‘Le Mans story’ is not over for Yurchenko. Two years ago, after an unsuccessful attempt to subdue the French Bugatti Le Mans Circuit, which ended for Makar in 2014 within the walls of a hospital room, Yurchenko’s comeback on the track in the fight for points in the championship FIM Junior Moto3 may officially be announced as a successful one. The young rider has changed the course of his history on the Bugatti Le Mans Circuit, with a great performance for team Procercasa 42Motorsport and Sokol Racetrack, in the fight for the Top-5. The ‘Le Mans story’ for Yurchenko is painted now in its first positive colors.
After two qualifying practices Makar Yurchenko was separated from the leader by 0,754 seconds. Yurchenko started the race from the 2nd line on the grid – the 6th position. Due to unsuccessful start, the rider had lost few positions on the first lap in the first chicane (turns 3-4). In the second part of the race, he caught a good pace and got into the struggle with a tight group of pilots for 5th place. Few laps before the end of the race Yurchenko went into the gravel to avoid collision with another rider, just on a quick braking bunch of 9th and 10th turns. As a result, Makar Yurchenko finished 15th, with 1 point into his overall standings.
Makar Yurchenko: “It was a positive race, I got a good pace that I wanted to carry through the whole race. The start had happened to be worse than we expected, plus the first half of the race I was struggling with the bike – it was difficult to enter the turns. But in the second part of the race when the tires were already worn out, I began to feel more confident with the bike. I caught up with a large group of pilots who were involved in the fight for 5th place, and began to overtake them one by one. Within 4 laps before the end of the race Jeremy Alcoba tried to overtake my bike and braked too late. Due to his mistake we went off the track. I found myself in the tail of my group and I had to catch up again.
Honestly speaking, I’m not happy with my race start and the final result, but I am happy with the work of my team and my feelings with a bike. In addition, I have the 3rd fastest lap time in the race and it proves once again that we are on the right way with my team. I’ll keep training hard and preparing for the next stage, which will be in 3 weeks in Aragon. Many thanks to everyone for support! Special thanks to Sokol Racetrack!»
