3rd round of Moto3 World Championship became a real challenge at Circuit of the Americas, as Saturday practice for Moto3 riders was cancelled by race direction due to weather conditions and non-stop rain. The only 15 minutes for qualification with almost “blind” bike settings on wet tested riders more for luck than for talent.
Makar Yurchenko, BOE Skull Rider Mugen Race Team rider, set 11th best time during FP1, with one position left to reach Top-20 at FP2. As far as 3rd free practice was cancelled, Yurchenko went direct to Q1 where grabbed 8th best time and 22nd place on the starting grid.
Sunday race lifted pilot to 18th position – only few steps to his first points in Moto3 World Championship.
Makar Yurchenko: “First 2 practices at Circuit of the Americas gave us a good feeling with a bike. Unexpected weather conditions and FP3 cancellation made us start everything from the very beginning. We didn´t feel strong during Q1 as we didn´t have enough time to test wet tires and bike settings.
In addition, Circuit of the Americas is a very long track and 15 minutes is never enough to find a good lap. We were a bit unlucky with tire choice for the race. It had factory defect – that is why I felt crazy chattering during race. But we will go on fighting and we will be stronger next time in Jerez, May 5th”.
For now, MotoGP Championship heads to Europe and is going to start its European challenge with Spanish GP, May 3-5th, at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto.
